NORMAL — The American Red Cross has announced PGA of America Hall of Famer Lee Trevino as the keynote speaker for the 29th annual Evening of Stars Celebration, set for Thursday, Oct. 24, in the Brown Ballroom at Illinois State University.
Doors open at 5:30 p.m. for the event, which will include dinner, a stage program with Trevino, and recognition of Central Illinois heroes. Dinner and the program will begin at 7 p.m.
"I look forward to joining the American Red Cross and its supporters for the annual Evening of Stars event,” Trevino stated in a news release. “I’m honored to have this opportunity to partner with an organization that works daily to carry out its lifesaving mission. I hope you’ll join us for an inspiring night!”
Trevino spent four years in the U.S. Marine Corps before turning to a professional golf career in 1960, according to the news release. In 1968, at the age of 27, he captured the first of his two U.S. Open Championships at Oak Hill Country Club in Rochester, New York.

He would go on to win 29 tournaments throughout his career, including six majors: the 1968 and 1971 U.S. Opens, the 1974 and 1984 PGA Championships, and the 1971 and 1972 Open Championships.
He represented the U.S. on six Ryder Cup Teams over the years and was captain of the U.S. Ryder Cup Team in 1985, the news release said.
Over four weeks in 1971, he won the U.S. Open, the Canadian Open and the Open Championship, contributing to his 1971 recognition as PGA of America Player of the Year. He also was a five-time recipient of the Vardon Trophy, the 2013 PGA Distinguished Service Award and the 1992 and 1994 Senior PGA Championships.
“We are excited to have Lee Trevino join us for this year’s Evening of Stars celebration,” stated Lyn Hruska, executive director of the Central Illinois Chapter of the American Red Cross. “We encourage everyone to join us for an inspiring night with Lee, a legendary golfer and incredible person. Evening of Stars will be a special night of supporting the Red Cross mission!”
Funds raised during the event will help the Red Cross provide disaster response, blood donation, training services and support to military members and their families.
Tickets are $200 for general admission or $750 for a pair of VIP tickets, allowing guests access to meet Trevino and have their photo taken with him.
